Surprise, Arizona lived up to the name during College Baseball Opening Day on Feb. 17. 

With the Texas Rangers’ major league home hosting the College Baseball Showdown in Arlington, Texas, its minor league facility in Arizona hosted powerhouse baseball program Oregon State along with Minnesota, UC Santa Barbara and New Mexico in the Sanderson Ford College Classic.

And it was the Lobos pulling off one of the season’s early upsets as New Mexico beat the Beavers 7-2.

Oregon State entered the season ranked in most polls as the 2018 College World Series champions were looking to reload after losing several impact bats from 2022. 

New Mexico showed that they have some work to do.

Dylan Ditzenberger had four hits for the Lobos and drove in three runs and Jefferey David added two RBI and a stolen base.

Riley Egloff and Brian McBroom combined for 13 strike outs and allowed one earned run a piece in the game on the mound for the Lobos.

OSU Baseball Has Minnesota Baseball Next Sanderson Ford College Classic

Oregon State will try to move past the loss on the second day at the Sanderson Ford College Baseball Classic with a game against Minnesota at 2 p.m. EST. 

New Mexico Baseball Vs. Santa Barbara On Day 2 At Sanderson Ford College Classic

The Lobos will play the Gauchos on Day 2 at the event at 7 p.m ET. They will play Oregon State again on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
