Top-ranked UCLA hands Texas A&M it's first loss of the year, winning 11-1 at the 2026 Amegy Bank College Baseball Series Weekend 3 in Arlington, Texas.

With the roof at Globe Life Field open for the first time over the three weekends of the 2026 College Baseball Series, the top-ranked UCLA Bruins provided some early fireworks against undefeated Texas A&M and used a four-run opening inning to put the game out of reach early.

The Bruins followed with two more multi-run innings, top-notch pitching and stellar defense to hand the Aggies their first loss of the season by an 11-1 margin in seven innings.

The win was the second for UCLA at the 2026 Amegy Bank College Baseball Series – Weekend 3 in Arlington, Texas, to go along with a victory over Tennessee on Friday. 

Texas A&M opened the event with a rout of Virginia Tech on Friday night to remain perfect on the year with the team’s first road win in 2026.

And, just like every game over the last two weekends, all of this week’s contests are being broadcast live on FloCollege and the FloSports app. 

UCLA now is 4-7 all-time against Texas A&M. Their first meeting came in 1993, and their last was in 2020 after not seeing each other for 15 years. UCLA won the 2020 contest 10-2 at a neutral site.

The Bruins got the job done Saturday with the help of slugger Will Gasparino, who blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to put UCLA ahead 11-1.

The junior leads college baseball with nine home runs this year, two of which came against Tennessee on Friday. Oh, and he only has 13 hits this season. 

Gasparino was 2 for 4 on Saturday with the home run, a single, three RBIs and two runs scored. The team had 14 hits in all, with Dean West, Mulivai Levu, Roman Martin and Dominic Cadiz each adding two.

Senior right-hander Michael Barnett got the start and the win for UCLA and improves to 3-0 on the season, and the Bruins go to 8-2 in 2026.

Barnett went five innings for the Bruins, giving up one run on one hit, while striking out four and walking three. 

The hit was one of just two for Texas A&M in the game, but it was a big one – a solo home run to right center by senior Jake Duer on a 3-2 pitch in the top of the second inning. The Aggies’ other hit was a sixth-inning single by Gavin Grahovac against sophomore right-hander Wylan Moss.

Texas A&M put three pitchers on the hill, and the loss went to starter Weston Moss, who got shelled for six runs on six hits in two innings, while walking three and striking out one.

With so much of the 2026 collegiate baseball season ahead, No. 23 Texas A&M absolutely should benefit from a test against the No. 1 team in the nation, win or lose.

The Aggies are two years removed from a runner-up finish to Tennessee at the 2024 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship, but a mediocre 2025 season landed them 13th among the 16 teams on the 2026 SEC Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll.

TAMU started the new season with an 8-0 eight-game homestand, winning close games and winning with blowouts. The Aggies have won 1-0 and 2-1, and they’ve won 23-7 and 25-5. Then, TAMU used an eight-run sixth inning to get past Virginia Tech at Globe Life Field on Friday night, 10-0. 

It was the first meeting between the two schools, despite a combined history of more than 250 years. 

Saturday’s action at 2026 Amegy Bank College Baseball Series – Weekend 3 got underway with a 5-3 win for No. 20 Tennessee over Arizona State, which was followed by a 15-8 rout for No. 4 Mississippi State against Virginia Tech. 

The 2026 season marks the sixth consecutive year of college baseball at Globe Life Field, home of the 2023 World Series-winning Texas Rangers, and the third straight year the action spans three weekends. 

The schedule includes the Shriners Children’s College Showdown (Feb. 13-15), Amegy Bank College Baseball Series – Weekend 2 (Feb. 20-22) and Amegy Bank College Baseball Series – Weekend 3 (Feb. 27-March 1), all of which has brought 18 teams to Arlington. 

Among the teams playing in Amegy Bank College Baseball Series - Weekend 3 are more than 30 MLB prospects who have first-round draft potential over the next two years, including UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky, who is considered the No. 1 prospect in the draft and is unanimously viewed as the top pick in 2026.

The Bruins have maintained their spot atop the D1 Baseball Top 25 and are fresh off their first appearance at the Men’s College World Series since 2013.

Now in their second season in the Big Ten Conference, the Bruins arrived in Texas at 6-2 on the year but coming off a loss to San Diego State on Tuesday.

The team’s 12-5 victory over Tennessee showed the Bruins’ depth and versatility, as that win featured five UCLA home runs, with two coming from Gasparino. 

They’ll end the trip to Texas with a top-5 heavyweight bout Sunday with Mississippi State and then will head home to face Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday. 

Up next for Texas A&M is a final GLF nightcap Sunday against Arizona State. After that, another five games at home, kicking off Tuesday against the University of the Incarnate Word.

Gasparino blasts a two-out three-run home run to left center, scoring Martin and Brennan. It's his ninth homer of the season, with two coming Friday against Tennessee. Oh, and he only has 13 hits this year.

UCLA sends sophomore right-hander Wylan Moss to the mound in the top of the sixth inning.

Moss strikes out Sorrell to start the inning and then gives up a single to Grahovac for the second hit of the game for TAMU.

Barnett went five innings for the Bruins, giving up one run on one hit, while striking out four and walking three.

Moss gets out of the inning with a 6-4-3 double play.

The Aggies are known for not walking a lot of batters, but Moss walks junior Roman Martin to load the bases. The strikeout-to-walk ratio for the Aggies starters this year coming into this game was 57-5.

About Texas A&M Baseball

The last time the Texas A&M played at Globe Life Field was in 2024, posting a 3-0 record with two wins over Arizona State and a triumph over USC.

That season ended with the team’s eighth trip to the Men’s College World Series, though the Aggies came up short against Tennessee.

Prior to that, they made it to Omaha in 2022, so if you’re superstitious, does that mean Texas A&M is a lock for 2026?

The Aggies are coming off a 30-26 campaign that included an 11-19 mark in SEC competition and saw them finish third from the bottom of the conference standings. 

They earned the No. 14 seed for the 2025 SEC Baseball Tournament and won two games, before being dispensed by eventual national champion LSU.

Texas A&M is in a tough spot. Is it better to be a middle-of-the-road team in the most powerful conference in college baseball, the one that has claimed every national title since 2019, or a top team in a lesser conference? 

Amazingly, 11 of the 16 teams in the SEC started this season ranked in the top 25.

About UCLA Baseball

In their debut season in the Big Ten Conference, the UCLA Bruins shared the regular-season title with Oregon and then finished as the runner-up to Nebraska in the 2025 Big Ten Baseball Tournament Presented by IFS.ai.

UCLA then rolled into the 2025 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship and had the opportunity to host the regional round and the Super Regional that followed.

The successful postseason run saw the Bruins make it to the Men’s College World Series for the first time since 2013, though an opening win against Murray State was followed by losses to LSU and Arkansas, resulting for an early trip home.

The Bruins’ campaign ended with a 48-18 overall record and 22-8 mark in conference play.

When Does The 2026 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship Start?

The first/regional round of the 2026 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship will be May 29-31, with times and locations TBD.

The NCAA Super Regional action will be held June 5-7, again, with times and locations TBD.

The last eight teams standing will head to the 2026 Men's College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, from June 12-22 to battle through a combination of double-elimination and best-of-three competition until a champion emerges.
