2022 Frontier League Power Rankings
Capitales Outpace Competition
The top spot remains unchanged this week, with Quebec remaining number one for the second installment in a row of FloBaseball’s very unofficial Frontier League power rankings. Almost every other spot in the top ten, though? It’s safe to say there’s been some movement.
1) Quebec (58-32) (Last Week: 1)
The Capitales remain in the top spot after winning four of their six games this past week, improving the league’s best record with series wins over Trois-Rivieres and Sussex County.
2) Ottawa (52-38) (Last Week: 9)
Ottawa skyrockets back up the charts after a huge week in which they’ve won five straight, cementing themselves as one of the hottest teams in the league at the moment, with back-to-back wins over Tri-City and then a sweep of Empire State.
3) Evansville (50-39) (Last Week: 7)
One of two teams in the league with wins in eight of their last ten, the Otters are hot, and saw a five-game winning streak come to an end with an 8-5 loss to Florence on Sunday.
4) Washington (56-34) (Last Week: 2)
The West Division leaders fall to fourth this week after dropping five in a row on the road, including a clean sweep from Lake Erie.
5) Schaumburg (50-40) (Last Week: 5)
Schaumburg is the only other team besides Quebec to maintain their spot from last week. They had a busy stretch, playing in seven games (4-3) thanks to a rescheduled game that had to be played on Monday.
6) Lake Erie (48-42) (Last Week: 8)
Who had Lake Erie as the league’s hottest team? With seven straight wins, they’re making a late run for a playoff spot in the West Division after sweeping both Windy City and Washington at home.
7) New York (51-38) (Last Week: 10)
The Boulders are up three spots after going on a similar run to the Crushers. They’ve now won six straight after sweeping New Jersey and Tri-City, and are just a half game out of a playoff spot.
8) Sussex County (52-38) (Last Week: 6)
Sussex won four of six this past week, and drop a few spots largely thanks to other teams getting hot. They opened the stretch with a sweep of the Greys before dropping two of three to Quebec.
9) Tri-City (49-40) (Last Week: 3)
The fightin’ Incaviglias have now lost five in a row, and freefall six spots this week as a result. They allowed a whopping 29 runs in a three-game sweep against New York.
10 Joliet (46-43) (Last Week: 4)
Another team that freefalls this week, the Slammers lost four of six, including a sweep against Evansville.
11) Gateway (42-48) (Last Week: 12)
The Grizzlies split their six games this past week, taking two out of three to wrap up the stretch against Schaumburg.
12) New Jersey (44-45) (Last Week: 14)
New Jersey was swept in their final series ever at Yogi Berra Stadium, but rebounded to take two out of three against Trois-Rivieres.
13) Trois-Rivieres (45-45) (Last Week: 11)
The Aigles dropped four of six this past week, allowing double-digit runs in both defeats at the hands of the Jackals on Friday and Saturday.
14) Florence (35-53) (Last Week: 15)
The Y’alls won just two of their five games this past week, but did plate 17 runs in their Wednesday win over Gateway.
15) Windy City (32-57) (Last Week: 13)
A horrid road record–11-30–largely did in the Thunderbolts this year, and this past week was no exception. Windy City rode the bus to get swept by Lake Erie to start the slate.
16) Empire State (6-84) (Last Week: 16)
Empire State remains at the bottom. It seems safe to say the Greys won’t make the playoffs this year.
