Capitales Rise In Rankings
Just when you thought they were out, the Quebec Capitales pulled themselves back in. After a few up-and-down weeks, the best in the East has once again started to pull away in the division as the stretch run towards the playoffs starts to pick up. It’s enough to get them back on top of FloBaseball’s Frontier League power rankings.
1) Quebec Capitales (54-30) (Last Week: 4)
A few games against their fellow Canadian opponents might've been just what the Capitales needed. They rattled off five straight against the Aigles and Titans to open the week, falling only on Sunday at home against Ottawa.
2) Washington Wild Things (55-29) (Last Week: 1)
Despite a week in which they split a six-game homestand with Florence and Evansville, the Wild Things maintain their hold on the first-round bye with an 8.5 game lead in the West Division.
3) Tri-City ValleyCats (47-35) (Last Week: 5)
The ‘Cats are clawing their way back up the rankings once again, winners of seven of their last eight games. They put up double-digits in the run column twice this week as well, once each against Ottawa and Trois-Rivieres.
4) Joliet Slammers (44-39) (Last Week: 6)
Joliet’s been on fire lately, and climb all the way up to fourth in these rankings after putting together an eight-game winning streak that was only just snapped on Sunday by Lake Erie.
5) Schaumburg Boomers (46-37) (Last Week: 2)
Wrapping up a whopping ten-game road trip, the Boomers recovered from being swept at the hands of Lake Erie to turn the tables on Florence this past week, taking all three games from the Y’alls by a combined 29-14 score.
6) Sussex County Miners (48-36) (Last Week: 10)
The Miners move up four spots this week thanks to winning five of six this past week, including taking two out of three from the Boulders after a clean sweep of the Greys.
7) Evansville Otters (45-38) (Last Week: 11)
Evansville also climbs four spots in this week’s rankings. The Otters strung together four straight wins this past week, including two against the Wild Things on the road, before Washington brought that streak to an end on Sunday.
8) Lake Erie Crushers (42-42) (Last Week: 12)
The Crushers are the last of this trio that’s moved up four spots this week, and they did so by virtue of taking four of six this past week, including an impressive sweep at home of Schaumburg.
9) Ottawa Titans (47-36) (Last Week: 3)
Ottawa freefalls this week after losing four out of the five games they played, salvaging the stretch only with a Sunday win in Quebec.
10 New York Boulders (45-38) (Last Week: 7)
The Boulders are slightly rolling downhill after splitting their six-game slate this week, winning their series against the Jackals, but dropping two of three to Sussex County.
11) Trois-Rivieres Aigles (43-41) (Last Week: 8)
Trois-Rivieres also falls three spots after dropping five out of their six games this past week, including a week-opening sweep at the hands of Quebec on the road.
12) Gateway Grizzlies (39-45) (Last Week: 13)
Gateway dropped four of six this past week, including a road sweep at the hands of the Slammers that ended with an extra innings loss on Thursday.
13) Windy City Thunderbolts (31-52) (Last Week: 15)
The Thunderbolts sandwiched four losses around week-opening and ending wins, ultimately losing both series they played in Evansville and Gateway.
14) New Jersey Jackals (42-41) (Last Week: 9)
It’s been a tough week for the Jackals, as news came out that they’d be leaving their long-time home at Yogi Berra Stadium, they also lost to the Empire State Greys on Saturday.
15) Florence Y’alls (33-50) (Last Week: 14)
It was another disastrous week, y’all. Florence fell in five of six–including four straight to end the week–and is now 12 games out of the final wild card spot in the division.
16) Empire State Greys (6-78) (Last Week: 16)
Empitre State continues to grind out a win, getting their sixth of the season this past week, but for now, they will stay at the bottom of the power rankings.
