BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week 

Jana Sanden, UConn, So., INF (Riverton, Conn.) 

UConn’s Jana Sanden drove in four runs as the Huskies took two out of three over the weekend against Villanova. The sophomore had a pair of hits in Friday’s win, including the walk-off two-run single in the bottom of the seventh which delivered UConn its first BIG EAST regular season title since 1997. Sanden would add two more RBI the next day in a 1-for-3 performance which led to another Husky win. In total, Sanden batted .400 on the weekend. 

BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week 

Karli Ricketts, Butler, Sr., P/DP (Indianapolis, Ind.) 

Butler’s Karli Ricketts got it done in starting and reliever roles in Sunday’s doubleheader sweep over Georgetown. The senior escaped a bases loaded jam in the sixth inning of game one, earning the save by striking out three Hoya batters over 1.1 innings of work. Ricketts would then get the start in game two, going the distance and striking out eight while allowing just four hits in a 7-1 Butler win. 

BIG EAST Softball Freshman of the Week 

Taylor Hill, Seton Hall, Fr., INF (Little Falls, N.J.) 

Seton Hall’s Taylor Hill wrapped up her freshman season in style, going 4-for-7 in Sunday’s doubleheader sweep over St. John’s in Queens. Hill went 1-for-4 in game one, scoring the eventual game-winning run in a 5-4 eight inning victory. In game two, Hill would go 3-for-3 with an RBI triple and a run scored as the Pirates earned a 4-2 win over the Red Storm.  

BIG EAST Softball Weekly Honor Roll 

Bri Avery, Butler, Sr., OF (Sandwich, Ill.) – Avery shined in Sunday’s doubleheader sweep over Georgetown, going 4-for-7 at the plate across the two games. In game two, she went 3-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases. 

Meghan O’Neil, UConn, Jr., P (Forest, Va.) – O’Neil was strong in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Villanova. The junior fired a complete game shutout, striking out 12 Wildcats in the process. It was O’Neil’s second consecutive game with double digit strikeouts. 

Tori Meyer, DePaul, Jr., OF/DP (Barrington, Ill.) – Meyer went 4-for-11 with three RBI as the Blue Demons took the weekend series at Providence. All three RBI came in Sunday’s series finale, as Meyer went 3-for-4 in the victory. 

Jacque Harrington, Providence, So., INF/UTIL (Bedford, N.H.) – Harrington had hits in all three games of the Friars’ series with DePaul, homering in each of the final two games. The sophomore went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI in Sunday’s finale. 

Kelsey White, Villanova, Fr., P/RF (Taunton, Mass.) – White was strong in the circle and at the plate in Sunday’s win over UConn. The freshman fired a complete game, allowing just two runs and striking out four while also going 2-for-3 batting in the Villanova victory.
