Could America's Pastime be the first in line for a post-outbreak comeback? According, in very large part, to ESPN's Jeff Passan, there appears to be a strong chance that's a yes.

Major League Baseball and the MLBPA are in the midst of ironing out a plan that could, in fact, result in the 'best case' mid-May return that was floated by the league at the time of its postponement.

In what would, in essence, amount to an extended Cactus League sans fans, all 30 teams would head to Phoenix, Ariz., where players, coaches and essential personnel would live in "relative" isolation, while playing games at Chase Field and the surrounding spring training parks.

The plan is contingent on a streamlined COVID-19 testing process and would likely come with a number of quirks, including an electronic strike zone, and seven-inning games.

Most sports fans in the U.S. would likely embrace baseball's return, in whatever format the league and health officials deem necessary — but not everyone is in agreement.

The MLB season was originally postponed on March 12 — just two weeks before the end of spring training.
