2019 Frisco Classic

We Knew The Frisco Classic Was Going To Be Good, But This Is Ridiculous

We Knew The Frisco Classic Was Going To Be Good, But This Is Ridiculous

The Frisco Classic just keeps looking better and better, as Texas A&M, UCLA and Oklahoma State each appear to be must-see teams.

Don't Mind The Train

It isn’t time — yet — to start talking about the Frisco Classic.

The Round Rock Classic is this weekend. The Kleberg Bank College Classic is this weekend. We’re excited. You’re excited. Everyone’s excited.

But, can we, if only for a moment, just take a peak ahead to Feb. 28, given what we saw on Tuesday night? That’s fair, right?

Oklahoma State Is Who We Thought They Were

The college baseball universe was collectively wrought with optimism as it pertained to the 2020 Oklahoma State Cowboys — who promptly proceeded to drop their opening series at Grand Canyon.

But, Grand Canyon picked up a 3-1 victory over Oregon on Tuesday night, while the ‘Pokes were following Brett Standlee’s lead to a road win at No. 11 Arizona State. In other words, all is feeling pretty forgiven right about now.

Standlee scattered seven hits over seven frames, allowing just one earned run while striking out eight.

Texas A&M’s Extended Batting Practice Continues

The conversation surrounding the eventual success — or lack thereof — of the latest version of Rob Childress’ Texas A&M Aggies was consistent: We know they can pitch, but can they hit?

Well …

No. 22 Texas A&M has piled up 45 runs through its first four games, including 13 in a Tuesday night demolition of Stephen F. Austin.

Bryce Blaum went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles, a pair of walks and three RBI from the leadoff spot in the victory over the Lumberjacks. Meanwhile, Cape Cod Zach DeLoach is alive and well in Aggieland.

DeLoach, who hit .368 with five dingers and and 23 RBI for Falmouth this summer, is now hitting a super casual .818 after going 2-for-2 in an abbreviated outing last night.

UCLA Is Doing All The Things

Freshman Jared Karros became the fourth consecutive starter to allow two-or-fewer runs over five-or-more innings for the 12th-ranked Bruins, allowing one earned over five innings, while striking out six and walking none during Tuesday’s victory over Loyola Marymount.

Add that to impressive season debuts for Zach Pettway, Jesse Bergin and Nick Nastrini, and it’s pretty clear that head coach John Savage will not struggle to fill out a weekend rotation.

In offensive news, Garrett Mitchell is one of a handful of Bruins who’ve been wearing out the baseball, posting five hits — including a pair of doubles — over his first dozen at-bats.

Friendly reminder that all three of these teams will join Illinois at the 2020 Frisco Classic in Frisco, Texas, Feb. 28-March 1, and every last one of the games will stream LIVE on FloBaseball and the FloSports app.
