The 2026 NCAA college baseball season continues through the Easter weekend. As the Division II teams continued play from Apr. 2-5, the push for a postseason spot is at an all time high.

From major upsets to huge wins, the power rankings saw a huge shift after the previous week of action. One of the biggest highlights to note is the extension of the Colorado Mesa Mavericks win streak to 16 games.

In the MIAA, one of the biggest upsets of the weekend comes from Central Missouri dropping a series to Rogers State, 1-3.

In the Lone Star, the UT Tyler Patriots still seem to be the top contenders to fight for a spot in Cary. In the Gulf South, Lee had a huge weekend pulling off a series sweep over the newest announced member of the NCAA D1 FCS campaign, West Florida.

With another week of action ramping up during the weekend of Apr. 10, here is a look back at the top five moments and key notes for the week ahead.

Division II Baseball Highlights From Apr. 2-5

1.) Carson Newman Walks Off Wingate

The Eagles of Carson Newman came up with a huge upset win over No. 19 Wingate. A two-rbi double in the bottom of the ninth secured the win for the Eagles.

2.) UT Dallas Defense Is On Fire

The UTD Comets' defense was on fire in the series against UT Tyler. Nico Fernandez had an absolute cannon of an arm behind the dish, throwing out two runners trying to steal.

3.) A Complete Game Shutout For The Broncos

The Cal Poly Ponoma Broncos may have dropped the series to Cal State. Monterey Bay, but the Broncos pitching staff had a day on April 3rd.

Anthony Vasquez, a junior right-hander, pitched a complete game shutout in the opening game of the series. the pitcher went nine full innings on the bump allowing three hits. Vasquez also tallied four strikeouts on the day.

4.) The Patriots Are Coming Alive At The Right Time

The UT Tyler Patriots have always been a powerhouse in Division 2 baseball, but after the program's first run to the College World Series in 2025, the winning ways have not stopped.

The Patriots have not dropped a single weekend series in the 2026 campaign. Despite having split three series in the LSC, the Patriots should be the winners of the Lone Star title and host the conference tournament in the coming weeks.

In the most recent week of baseball, the Patriots took the series over UT Dallas. In the game on Apr. 4, the Patriots tied it up in a clutch moment in the sixth.

5.) The Best Tradition In Baseball Happens in Dallas

One of the best traditions in sports is the playing of the national anthem, but for baseball fans in the DFW area, one of the most beloved traditions happens at Dallas Baptist University.

The UT Tyler Patriots and the UTD Comets duked it out at the Dallas Baptist University's Horner Ballpark which is located next to the DFW National Cemetery.

At 7pm each day, Taps is played in the cemetery and all action stops, including baseball.
