Kansas State scored five in the second and held off Michigan 10-6 as Dee Kennedy and Micah Kendrick powered the Wildcats to the win.

Kansas State Baseball used a five-run second inning to power past Michigan 10-6 on Sunday at the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series Weekend 2 finale at Globe Life Field. 

Trailing 2-0, the Wildcats erupted behind a two-run double from Micah Kendrick and an RBI single by Bear Madliak. Dee Kennedy capped the frame with a solo home run to left, giving Kansas State a lead it would not relinquish.

Michigan trimmed the deficit to 6-3 in the third on an RBI single by Brenden Stressler, then pulled within 9-6 in the seventh when Stressler drove in a run and Colby Turner launched a two-run homer to left.

Kansas State answered immediately as Carlos Vasquez opened the bottom of the seventh with a solo shot to restore a four-run cushion.

Lincoln Sheffield earned the win, settling in after allowing two early runs. The Wildcats’ bullpen closed it out, stranding two Michigan runners in the ninth to secure the victory.

Michigan put two aboard in the ninth after a hit batter and an error, but couldn’t push a run across. Brenden Stressler flied out to center and Colby Turner struck out swinging before Jack Laffitte grounded out to second, sealing Kansas State’s 10-6 victory.

Michigan made multiple defensive adjustments and turned to Grant Bradley in the eighth, and the right-hander delivered. Bradley struck out Micah Kendrick, induced a flyout to center and a groundout to third as Kansas State went down in order, keeping it 10-6.

Kansas State’s bullpen kept Michigan quiet in the eighth. After a series of defensive shifts, Cohen Feser retired Elie Kligman on a flyout and induced two groundouts to third, sending the Wolverines down in order and preserving the 10-6 lead.

Kansas State answered immediately in the bottom of the seventh. Carlos Vasquez blasted a solo home run to left to push the lead back to four runs. Tyler Finkbeiner retired the other three hitters in order, but the Wildcats extended their advantage to 10-6.

Michigan clawed back with three runs in the seventh. Brenden Stressler delivered an RBI single before Colby Turner launched a two-run homer to left, cutting the deficit to 9-6. The Wolverines added another hit, but Kansas State turned to the bullpen to stop the rally.

Michigan turned to Tyler Finkbeiner in the sixth, and he responded with a dominant inning. After a pair of defensive adjustments, Finkbeiner struck out Ty Smolinski, Robbie Bolin and Dee Kennedy in order to keep Kansas State scoreless and maintain the 9-3 margin.

Michigan threatened briefly in the sixth when Elie Kligman singled with two outs, but Lincoln Sheffield retired the side without damage. Carson Luna grounded out, Joe Longo flied out and Greg Pace Jr. lifted a fly ball to right to end the inning with Kansas State leading 9-3.

Max Debiec worked around a leadoff walk in the fifth to keep Kansas State off the board. Grant Gallagher was thrown out trying to steal second, and Debiec followed with a groundout and foul popout to end the inning and hold the Wildcats at 9-3.

Lincoln Sheffield continued to cruise in the fifth, retiring Michigan in order. Brayden Jefferis grounded out to second, Brenden Stressler followed with a groundout to first and Colby Turner flied out to right as Kansas State maintained its 9-3 lead.

Kansas State broke it open in the fourth with three more runs. After a walk and hit batter, Dee Kennedy delivered an RBI single. AJ Evasco followed with a two-run single to center, pushing the Wildcats’ lead to 9-3 before Michigan escaped the inning.

Kansas State’s Lincoln Sheffield retired Michigan in order in the fourth. Greg Pace Jr. flied out to left, Drew Culbertson grounded out to second and Cade Ladehoff flied out to center as the Wildcats maintained a 6-3 lead.

Kansas State added to its lead in the bottom of the third. Carlos Vasquez singled and Shintaro Inoue doubled to put runners at second and third. Grant Gallagher brought one home with a sacrifice fly to center, extending the Wildcats’ advantage to 6-3.

Michigan answered with a run in the third. Cade Ladehoff doubled and later scored on Brenden Stressler’s RBI single to right. The Wolverines loaded the bases, but Kansas State limited the damage to one run and maintained a 5-3 lead.

Kansas State erupted for five runs in the second to surge ahead. After two walks and a wild pitch, Micah Kendrick delivered a two-run double and Bear Madliak followed with an RBI single. Dee Kennedy capped the inning with a solo homer to left, giving the Wildcats a 5-2 lead.

Michigan capitalized on a Kansas State error to take a 2-0 lead in the second. Joe Longo doubled and later scored on a throwing error by the third baseman. Greg Pace Jr. followed with an RBI double to left, giving the Wolverines two unearned runs in the inning.

Kansas State put a runner aboard in the first but couldn’t cash in. Dee Kennedy singled and stole second after a groundout by Robbie Bolin, but Kurt Barr responded with back-to-back strikeouts, including a dropped third strike, to strand the runner and keep the game scoreless.
