College Baseball Series Power Rankings After Weekend 1: OU? Oh Yeah
College Baseball Series Power Rankings After Weekend 1: OU? Oh Yeah
Oklahoma leads the College Baseball Series Power Rankings after Weekend 1, with Mississippi State and Kansas State among the unbeaten teams.

The College Baseball Series features 21 teams playing at Globe Life Field in Arlington and in Surprise over the first three weekends of the season. The largest College Baseball Series ever features 12 teams that were ranked in the first in-season poll at D1Baseball.
Add Oklahoma, which was ranked in the Baseball America poll, and that makes 13 of the 21 teams.

But who is No. 1 in the College Baseball Series Power Poll after Weekend 1? That would be the Sooners, who had one of the best weekends we’ve ever seen at the College Baseball Showdown.
Meanwhile, Mississippi State, which will play in Weekend 3, has rolled to a 5-0 record. The surprise may be from the Big 12, as undefeated Kansas State dropped bombs all weekend long to start the season.
Here’s the College Baseball Series Power Poll after Weekend 1.
The Undefeateds
1. Oklahoma Baseball (4-0)
The Sooners were the best team at the College Baseball Showdown in Weekend 1 and had the best weekend of any team in the nation. They beat Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and run-ruled TCU on Sunday. Their pitchers, Cam Johnson and LJ Mercurius, were dominant. The Sooners were unranked in the D1Baseball preseason poll and after the first weekend but moved from No. 19 to No. 15 at Baseball America.
2. Mississippi State (5-0)
The Bulldogs are off to a 5-0 start to the season, the best record among the field. They haven’t played a powerhouse program yet, and with a series against Delaware and a Tuesday game against Austin Peay, they look poised to come to Arlington for Weekend 3 with an undefeated record.
3. Kansas State Baseball (4-0)
The Wildcats and Dee Kennedy dominated the first weekend. They beat Iowa 15-6, Penn State 24-5 and had wins against UConn and Air Force. They’ll be tested Friday night against Auburn.
4. Florida State Baseball (3-0)
The Seminoles had a game postponed against James Madison because of weather, but they are undefeated after a Tuesday win against Jacksonville. They’ll play No. 5 Auburn on Saturday in one of the best games of the weekend.
5. Tennessee Baseball (4-0)
The Volunteers are 4-0 after a sweep of Nicholls and UNC Asheville. But don’t sleep on their weekend series against MAC powerhouse Kent State. The Golden Flashes are 3-1 and are picked second in the MAC. Tennessee won’t play a Power 4 program until Weekend 3 of the College Baseball Series.
6. Arizona State Baseball (4-0)
The Sun Devils are nowhere in the preseason polls but are 4-0 after a sweep against Omaha and a big win over UConn. They’ll play another Big East team this weekend when they face St. John’s, then play two games against Oklahoma next week on Feb. 24 and 25. The tests are coming.
7. Texas A&M Baseball (4-0)
Like Tennessee, A&M won’t be tested by another Power 4 program until Weekend 3 of the College Baseball Series, but they avoided upsets in Weekend 1. They’ll play Penn and Lamar before heading to Globe Life Field.
8. Virginia Tech Baseball (4-0)
Off to a 4-0 start after a series win over William & Mary to start the season, they beat ETSU on Tuesday. This weekend they’ll host Rutgers of the Big Ten, then play James Madison before facing A&M in the Weekend 3 Day 1 nightcap.
The 1-Loss Teams
9. Michigan Baseball (3-1)
Michigan had an impressive Opening Day, beating Oregon State in Surprise, Arizona, at the College Baseball Series in Weekend 1. The Wolverines nearly did it again a few days later before falling in extra innings. They also beat Arizona, which was ranked in the D1Baseball preseason poll. Michigan will face Florida State at the College Baseball Series Weekend 2 opener, a game that will stream live for free on FloCollege’s baseball YouTube page.
10. UCLA Baseball (2-1)
Last week’s No. 1 team and still No. 1 in both major polls. The Bruins lost a Sunday game to UC San Diego by a run, then blasted Tulane 13-5. They’ll be tested in one of the best series of the weekend when they play TCU at home. They play San Diego State on Feb. 24 before a matchup against Tennessee on Feb. 27.
11. Auburn Baseball (3-1)
A sweep of Youngstown State was expected for the Tigers, but a shutout loss to Cincinnati on Tuesday knocked them out of the ranks of the undefeated. Still, No. 5-ranked Auburn will be tested against Kansas State, Florida State and Louisville this weekend.
12. Arkansas Baseball (3-1)
The Hogs beat Oklahoma State in eight innings to start the College Baseball Showdown but lost to TCU 5-4, then survived a tense Texas Tech game on Sunday in 11 innings. They played Tarleton State during the week, winning 2-1. They face Xavier this weekend.
13. Oregon State Baseball (3-1)
The Beavers usually dominate the showcase formerly known as the Sanderson Ford Classic, which is now part of the College Baseball Series. They still performed well, going 3-1, but lost to Michigan to start the season. They bounced back and beat Michigan a few days later and picked up a pair of one-run wins over Stanford and Arizona.
14. Nebraska Baseball (3-1)
A loss to Stanford is the lone blemish of the first week. Nebraska run-ruled UConn while also picking up wins over Northeastern and Grand Canyon.
The Best Of The Rest
15. TCU Baseball (2-2)
TCU looked like the best team in baseball across the first two games with wins over ranked Vanderbilt and Arkansas, but a run-rule loss to Oklahoma on Sunday was stunning. Then they lost to UT Arlington 11-8 on Tuesday. They’ll be tested against UCLA this weekend in what may be the best series in the country.
16. Stanford Baseball (2-2)
The Cardinal will take a 2-2 record into their series against Cal State Fullerton. They beat No. 24 Arizona to start the season, then lost one-run games to Michigan and Oregon State before beating Nebraska.
17. Vanderbilt Baseball (3-2)
A disappointing showing by the SEC stalwarts at the College Baseball Showdown, but they bounced back from the 1-2 opening with back-to-back wins over Eastern Michigan.
18. Oklahoma State Baseball (1-2)
A run-rule win over Vanderbilt after 10-run and nine-run losses at the College Baseball Showdown made the trip back to Stillwater better.
19. Louisville Baseball (1-2)
Louisville stayed ranked in the D1Baseball rankings but dropped out at Baseball America. They’ll be tested with Nebraska, Michigan and Auburn.
20. Texas Tech Baseball (1-3)
The Red Raiders went 0-3 at the College Baseball Showdown but played in the weekend’s best game when they nearly stunned Arkansas before losing in 11 innings. They beat UTRGV 21-12 on Tuesday.
21. Arizona Baseball (0-4)
The season couldn’t have started much worse for the Wildcats, but they remain ranked at D1Baseball. They’ve lost four games, including a loss to Omaha. They’ll play UConn four times this weekend before facing Oregon, Vanderbilt and UC Irvine at the Las Vegas Classic.
