The UCLA Baseball program remained No. 1 in the recent Baseball America college baseball rankings on Feb. 16 despite an 8-7 loss to UC Davis. The Bruins won their opening series and are 2-1 on the year as they continue to eye their Amegy College Baseball Series slate next week at Globe Life Field.

D1 Baseball also kept UCLA at No. 1 in their updated rankings.

The Bruins are part of a massive third weekend at Globe Life that will also feature Baseball America’s No. 3 team, Mississippi State, which went 3-0 in its series against CAA member Hofstra. The Bulldogs are No. 4 at D1 Baseball.

The Bulldogs won two close doubleheaders on Saturday, 6-6 and 7-5, and were led by star transfer Ace Reese, who went 5-for-12 with three doubles and a home run.

The Bruins play Tulane on Tuesday before a weekend series against TCU, which went 2-1 at the Shriners Children's College Baseball Showdown on the first weekend. TCU, despite a run-rule loss to Oklahoma on Sunday, moved up in the Baseball America rankings from No. 9 to No. 8.

TCU moved to No. 7 at D1 Baseball.

The Sooners were unranked in the D1Baseball preseason poll but were No. 19 at Baseball America. Their impressive opening weekend, which featured a run-rule win over TCU, a 9-run win over Oklahoma State and a 10-3 victory over Texas Tech, led them to the College Baseball Showdown trophy.

The Sooners entered the D1 rankings after the weekend, registering at No. 21.

The Weekend 2 slate the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series will feature No. 5 Auburn, who went 3-0 in the opening weekend series against Youngstown State. They face No. 12 Florida State on Feb. 21 in the 4 p.m. game at Globe Life.

Louisville fell out of Baseball America's rankings this weekend after going 1-2 against Michigan State. However, the Cardinals stay at No. 15 at D1 Baseball

College Baseball Run Rule Explained

NCAA baseball generally tries to play full nine-inning games, but a run rule is sometimes used, most often in non-conference games, showcases, tournaments, the final game of a series, and doubleheaders.

When it’s in effect, a game can end in the seventh inning if one team leads by 10 or more runs. In seven-inning scheduled games, the run rule applies in the fifth, and it’s generally not used in regular-season conference play since conferences set their own rules.
