Oklahoma State Comes Alive, Cowboys Beat Vandy 11-1 At Globe Life Field
Oklahoma State comes to life and defeats Vanderbilt 11-1 to kick off the final day of the 2026 Shriners Children’s College Showdown in Arlington, Texas.

There’s no halftime in baseball. No specific time to rehydrate and regroup. No set opportunity for a deep breath and a pep talk.
But something happened halfway through the Vanderbilt-Oklahoma State matchup Sunday at the 2026 Shriners Children’s College Showdown that sparked life into the OSU offense and turned a dismal weekend into an exciting onslaught against the No. 23 team in the country.
Unique might be the best way to describe the first half of the contest, a pitchers’ duel with almost as many walks as strikeouts, but 10 runs across the fifth and sixth innings catapulted the Cowboys to their first win of the year, an 11-1 eight-inning victory over the two-time national champions.
The game was the first of three scheduled for the final day of the opening event of the 2026 College Baseball Series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
The Commodores were looking to end the weekend with a winning record, while OSU was hoping to end a two-game season-opening losing skid.
Every game of the three-weekend, 18-team College Baseball Series is being broadcast live on FloCollege and the FloSports app.

Oklahoma State entered the game after blowout losses to No. 7 Arkansas (12-2) and Oklahoma (10-1) that saw 35 of OSU’s 54 outs come as strikeouts.
The trend continued into the fifth inning Sunday, with the Cowboys striking out seven times against Vanderbilt starter Nate Taylor, before they were able to capitalize on one of the free passes and break open the game.
Two walks and a single loaded the bases for OSU in the fifth inning, while a sacrifice fly from sophomore Garrett Shull plated the first run of the game.
Junior outfielder Kollin Ritchie then delivered a three-run blast to right field, the first of his two home runs on the day, to extend the lead to 4-0. Ritchie hit another ball into the bleachers in the bottom of the eighth inning to end the clash early.
In between, the Cowboys added another six runs in the sixth inning, while the OSU pitchers held Vanderbilt hitless into the seventh.
Sophomore right-hander Noah Wech, who entered the game in the fourth inning, served up a seventh-inning home-run pitch to graduate outfielder Logan Johnstone, a transfer from Washington State, to break up the no-hitter and the shutout.
The last no-hit performance for Oklahoma State was a combined effort against Loyola Marymount in 2023, the 13th in OSU program history.
Wech ended up getting the win Sunday after going 3 1/3 innings. He gave up one hit, one run, struck out four and walked three.
The forgotten stat of the day, however, might be from Oklahoma State starter Ethan Lund, a sophomore left-hander who did a lot of work, but didn’t get a decision.
Lund threw 93 pitches through 3 2/3 innings, while holding Vanderbilt hitless. He recorded eight strikeouts and six walks, before leaving the game with runners on first and second and two outs.
Most recollections of the game also won’t include Taylor, who made his first career start for the Commodores, but earned the loss. Prior to Sunday, the most pitches he’d ever thrown was 24, and the most innings he’d pitched was 1 1/3.
His contribution in the losing effort included 4 1/3 innings, two hits, two runs, seven strikeouts, three walks and a hit batter.
Oklahoma State finished the game with 11 runs on eight hits and left six runners on base. Ritchie was 3 for 5 with two home runs, six RBIs and three runs scored. Senior first baseman Colin Brueggemann, whose ground-rule double in the second inning was the first hit of the game, was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
Vanderbilt’s other hit was an eighth-inning single from Johnstone’s younger brother, Carter.
OSU and Vanderbilt first met in 2010, and the Commodores still own a 5-4 advantage in the series.
The Cowboys won 2 of 3 on Vandy’s home turf in 2022, and the Commodores took their last meeting, an 11-9 nailbiter at Globe Life Field during the 2023 College Baseball Series. Vanderbilt led 11-3 after six innings, but OSU stalled after a six-run eighth inning.
This year was the second consecutive time Oklahoma State has opened its season at the Shriners event. The Cowboys went 1-2 at the tournament last year.
Vanderbilt is a return competitor, too, having also started the 2023 season at Globe Life Field. The Commodores lost to TCU that year, before beating Oklahoma State and Texas to round out the weekend.
This time, Vanderbilt leaves Texas at 1-2 on the season, which includes a late-inning collapse in a 5-4 loss to No. 10 Texas Christian University on Friday and a 13-3 run-rule blowout of Texas Tech on Saturday.
Vanderbilt, the 2014 and 2019 national champion and reigning Southeastern Conference Tournament champion, owns the longest active streak in the nation for appearances in the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship with 19, led by Tim Corbin, who is in his 24th season with the team.
The squad will head home to Nashville, Tennessee, for a six-game homestand that begins Tuesday with a visit from Eastern Michigan.
Oklahoma State will take its own 1-2 record on the road this week for four games against Grand Canyon in Phoenix from Feb. 19-22.
Next up at the Shriners Children’s College Showdown is Texas Tech against Arkansas at 3:40 p.m. Eastern and TCU vs. Oklahoma in the finale at 7:30 p.m. EST.
The 2026 season marks the sixth consecutive year of college baseball at Globe Life Field, home of the 2023 World Series-winning Texas Rangers, and the third straight year the action spans three weekends.
The schedule includes the Shriners Children’s College Showdown (Feb. 13-15), Amegy Bank College Baseball Series – Weekend 2 (Feb. 20-22) and Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented – Weekend 3 (Feb. 27-March 1), all of which will bring 18 teams to Arlington.

About Vanderbilt Baseball
Vanderbilt finished the 2025 college baseball season with a 43-18 record after being bounced from the NCAA Nashville Regional.
The Commodores, the 2014 and 2019 NCAA national champions, opened the 2025 Division I Baseball Championship with a win over Wright State but then lost to Louisville and Wright State in consecutive games to close the door on their campaign.
After finishing tied for third place in the competitive SEC last year and earning the No. 4 seed for the SEC Tournament, Vanderbilt went on to win the tournament and earned an opportunity to add another national title.
In the championship game of the 2025 SEC Tournament, the Vanderbilt pitching staff held off Ole Miss to secure a 3-2 victory and the fifth SEC Tournament title for the Commodores.
Following the event, the SEC found the national spotlight with a record 13 (of 16) SEC teams advancing to the Division I Baseball Championship.
This season, Vanderbilt has been picked to finish fourth in possibly the most competitive league in all of NCAA athletics, while the Commodores hope to get the momentum going in the right direction with another winning weekend at Globe Life after going 2-1 in 2023.
