Last year, the University of Tennessee baseball team was one of a record 13 teams from the Southeastern Conference to advance to the 2025 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.
Though the Volunteers were not able to repeat as national champions, the title was claimed by the SEC for the sixth consecutive season, with LSU winning for the second time in three years.
Heading into the 2026 campaign, 11 of the 16 SEC teams made the 2026 D1Baseball Preseason Top 25 Rankings, and FloCollege subscribers will get a closer look at seven of them during the 2026 College Baseball Series, which will be broadcast live on FloCollege and the FloSports app from Feb. 13 through March 1.

The College Baseball Series again will be held at Globe Life Field, home of the 2023 World Series-winning Texas Rangers, and the three weekends of action will include 18 teams.
The season-opening Shriners Children’s College Showdown (Feb. 13-15) will feature three SEC teams – Arkansas, Oklahoma and reigning SEC Tournament champion Vanderbilt.
Auburn will be the lone SEC squad in Texas for the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series – Weekend 2 (Feb. 20-22), while the final weekend of play, Amegy Bank College Baseball Series – Weekend 3, will include Mississippi State, Tennessee and Texas A&M.
The SEC teams in the recent D1Baseball rankings are: LSU (No. 2), Texas (No. 3), Mississippi State (No. 4), Arkansas (No. 7), Auburn (No. 9), Florida (No. 13), Tennessee (No. 14), Georgia (No. 15), Kentucky (No. 18), Vanderbilt (No. 23) and Texas A&M (No. 25).
Tennessee returns to the College Baseball Series for the first time since a record-setting 2024 season that concluded with the Volunteers winning their first national title, defeating Texas A&M in the championship series of the 2024 Men’s College World Series.
The Aggies did get a shot at some redemption during the 2025 regular season and defeated Tennessee 2-1 in a three-game conference series in April.
Since 2005, Texas A&M holds a 14-13 advantage in their rivalry, but the earliest the Vols could have a chance to even the series is the 2026 SEC Tournament. The two won’t face off in Arlington this month, and they’re not scheduled to play each other during the regular season.
Instead, Tennessee’s three games at the College Baseball Series will be against UCLA (Feb. 27), Arizona State (Feb. 28) and Virginia Tech (March 1).
Along with their No. 14 national ranking, the Vols enter 2026 in the No. 6 spot of the 2026 SEC Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll. LSU tops the list.

How Did Tennessee Baseball Do In 2025, And What Does 2026 Look Like?
Tennessee wasn’t able to repeat, but the season was a decent one.
The Vols finished conference play in 2025 with a 16-14 record, which tied them for seventh place in the 16-team SEC and earned them the No. 8 seed for the SEC Tournament. They reached the semifinals, before falling to eventual champion Vanderbilt.
When it was time to run it back in the NCAA Baseball Championship, Tennessee was one of a record 13 SEC programs to make the 64-team bracket.
The Vols reached the Super Regional round but fell to fellow SEC standout Arkansas with another trip to Omaha on the line, losing their best-of-three series 2-0.
The campaign ended with a 46-19 overall record, and not long after, the team had to say goodbye to head coach Tony Vitello, who moved on to become the head coach of MLB’s San Francisco Giants.
Vitello was 341-131 during his tenure at Tennessee from 2018-2025. He inherited a Giants team that was 81-81 in 2025.
As the team eyes its fourth trip to the Men’s College World Series since 2021, it will come under the leadership of longtime staff member Josh Elander, who has been a big part of UT’s recent success.
In claiming the 2024 national title, Tennessee compiled a 60-13 record, becoming the first SEC team in history to collect 60 wins in a single season.
The performance also saw the Vols become the fourth SEC squad to win the conference’s regular-season title, SEC Tournament title and the national championship in the same campaign.
Additionally, Tennessee became the second No. 1 overall seed to win it all since the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship switched to its current format in 1999. Miami achieved the feat that season.
The baseball title was Tennessee’s 24th team national championship and the school’s first win since 2009.
The best baseball finish for the Volunteers before 2024 was a runner-up effort against Oklahoma at the Division I Baseball Championship in 1951.
Elander and the Vols will begin his first season in charge with an eight-game homestand, beginning Feb. 13, before heading to Texas.
