As the top six teams from the regular season converge in Los Angeles, No. 1 seed Cal State Monterey Bay leads the field into the 2025 CCAA Baseball Tournament

The Otters arrive aiming for a historic three-peat, while the rest of the bracket looks to spoil their title defense and claim the conference crown for themselves.

Cal State LA serves as the host for this year’s tournament, which begins on Wednesday, May 7, with a pair of single-elimination matchups. In the opening game, No. 3 seed San Francisco State will face No. 6 Cal State San Marcos. The nightcap features the host and No. 4 seed Eagles taking on fifth-seeded Chico State in a battle of evenly-matched programs.

Wednesday’s winners will advance into the double-elimination portion of the bracket, where the tournament’s top two seeds — Cal State Monterey Bay and No. 2 Cal State Dominguez Hills — await. With a deep and competitive field set to take the stage at Reeder Field, the 2025 CCAA Baseball Championship promises four days of high-stakes action.

CCAA Baseball Tournament 2025 Teams

Here are the six teams competing in the CCAA Baseball Tournament:

No. 1 Cal State Monterey Bay Baseball

2025 Record: 33-16 (26-14 CCAA)

What to Know:

The regular-season champion and defending CCAA Tournament winner, Cal State Monterey Bay, is chasing a three-peat. The Otters lead the conference in multiple pitching categories, including ERA (4.47), opponent batting average (.255), and strikeouts (409).

Leading the staff is right-hander Nate Rohlicek, who’s struck out 73 batters over 68 1/3 innings with a 0.96 WHIP. Lefty Mitchell Torres (3.78 ERA, 1.22 WHIP) and versatile Dylan Gardner (3.64 ERA, 30 Ks) round out a deep rotation.

At the plate, CSUMB features three of the CCAA’s top five home-run hitters — KW Quilici, Jaden Sheppard, and Max Farfan — all with 11 homers. Javier Felix added 10 long balls of his own. Quilici, Sheppard, and Felix are each batting .335 or better with OPS north of 1.000. Farfan follows closely (.298 AVG, .997 OPS).

The Otters’ blend of dominant pitching and explosive power makes them a formidable tournament favorite.

No. 2 Cal State Dominguez Hills Baseball

2025 Record: 29-20 (25-15 CCAA)

What to Know:

Despite a late-season slide that cost them the regular-season crown, the Toros remain a strong contender. Their ace, Justin Abercrombie, might be the best pitcher in the league, boasting a 2.83 ERA and holding opponents to a .208 average. He’s allowed just 20 earned runs all season while striking out 69 — though he hasn’t pitched since April 18, making his availability a key storyline.

The rest of the rotation has struggled (ERAs from 4.96 to 7.55), but the bullpen is anchored by Julian Castro, who’s been reliable with a 2.47 ERA over 47 1/3 innings.

Offensively, expect Quinn Johnson and Dylan Schumacher to lead the charge, along with Noah Karliner, who enters the postseason with 12 home runs.

No. 3 San Francisco State Baseball

2025 Record: 30-19 (25-15 CCAA)

What to Know:

San Francisco State brings one of the most dangerous offenses into the tournament. The Gators lead the CCAA with a team batting average of .332 — 17th-best in NCAA Division II — and have six players hitting .309 or better (min. 175 ABs).

Slugger Michael Cunningham leads the conference with 16 home runs, placing him among the national top 30 in Div. II. Daniel Murillo isn’t far behind, batting a team-best .399 with 11 homers. Together, they’ve combined for 98 RBI.

On the mound, the Gators rely on a strong 1–2 punch: Nathan Shinn (2.84 ERA) and David Eichhorn (3.76 ERA), who are a combined 14–3.

No. 4 Cal State LA Baseball

2025 Record: 26-24 (23-17 CCAA)

What to Know:

The Eagles will look to flip the script at home, where they’ve gone just 10-14 this season. Their opening-round opponent is Chico State — a team they split with in the regular season, including a memorable 14–9 extra-inning shootout.

Isaiah Marquez leads Cal State LA in nearly every offensive category: 9 HR, 42 RBI, and 16 stolen bases. He's supported by Malik Clayton (.371 AVG) and Cesar Chavez (.328 AVG, 15 doubles), giving the Eagles some serious punch in the middle of the lineup.

No. 5 Chico State Baseball

2025 Record: 29-20 (22-18 CCAA)

What to Know:

Though not a high-volume base-stealing team overall, Chico State excels at executing small-ball. Each of its top five hitters — all batting over .300 — has stolen at least six bases, and four of them have on-base percentages north of .400.

Power comes from Troy Kent, who leads the team with nine home runs, 17 doubles, and 48 RBI.

No. 6 Cal State San Marcos Baseball

2025 Record: 25-22 (20-18 CCAA)

What to Know:

Cal State San Marcos closed strong, going 12–8 since April with key wins and a series split against top-seeded Monterey Bay. The Cougars enter the tournament on a hot streak, scoring seven or more runs in 12 games — including seven straight to close the regular season.

A key contributor during the surge is Marco Pirruccello, who carries an 11-game hitting streak into the tournament, capped by a five-RBI finale against Cal State San Bernardino. He's also 5-for-5 on steal attempts. Garrett Teunissen (12 SB on 13 tries) gives CSUSM another basepath threat.
