Seven teams from the loaded Lone Star Conference compete for the league championship beginning on May 2, the first day of competition in the 2025 LSC Baseball Tournament.

Top-seeded Angelo State brings the No. 1 ranking in the latest NCAA Div. II regional standings, and the Rams look to build more momentum in pursuit of a national championship. Angelo State fell short in the title round a season ago.

Hot on the Rams' heels is UT Tyler, which matched Angelo State's 41-win regular-season mark. The LSC Baseball Tournament field also features a Lubbock Christian team with the Lone Star's most prolific single-season home-run hitter, Brevin McCool.

McCool blasted an unreal 30 bombs in the regular season and looks to go yard some more as the Chaps try to break through for a conference championship.

LSC Baseball Tournament 2025 Teams

Here are the seven teams competing in the LSC Baseball Tournament:

No. 1 Angelo State Baseball

2025 Record:  41-7, 39-7 Lone Star Conference

What to Know: Looking to reach a remarkable fifth consecutive NCAA Division II College World Series and claim its second national championship in three seasons, Angelo State begins the LSC Baseball Tournament as the clear team to beat.

The Rams closed the conference schedule with the best winning percentage both in conference and overall. Their continued success is a result of a whopping team batting average of .380 — tops in Div. II baseball.

Four ASU hitters with at least 135 at-bats — Weston Valasek, Jacob Guerrero, Chase Pendley, and Ethan Flodstrom — have batting averages of .406 or better. All four have also driven in at least 40 runs ahead of the LSC Baseball Tournament.

The Rams boast boppers up and down the order, evident in Brett Smajstrla hitting a team-best nine home runs in just 87 at-bats. That prolific offense powers Angelo State in its pursuit of another national title, but first, the Rams have sights on a sweep of the LSC championships in 2025.

No. 2 UT Tyler Baseball

2025 Record: 41-9, 40-8

What to Know: Led by the one-two punch of outstanding hitters Drew Schmidt and Justin Williams, UT Tyler has national championship potential in 2025. Both Schmidt and Williams embark on the postseason batting better than .400, with Williams' 12 home runs leading the Eagles.

The duo has also combined to drive in 109 runs for a UT Tyler offense that ranks seventh nationally in team batting average (.354); fifth in total hits (540); and eighth in runs (474). Fellow Eagles Bryce Jewell, Mason Hammonds, Tanner Hornback, Blake LaBuda, and Kyle Atkinson have all contributed at least 30 RBI so far in 2025.

UT Tyler also features one of the top starting pitchers in the LSC, Rawley Hector. Hector navigated the treacherous conference, loaded with big bats, to produce a 3.11 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 67 strikeouts and a 7-1 record. The right-hander posted a 10-strikeout game down the stretch vs. Sul Ross State.

No. 3 St. Edward's Baseball

2025 Record: 32-18, 31-17

What to Know: Right-handed pitcher Kobe Jamarillo will be a player to watch in the LSC Baseball Tournament, as he leads the St. Edward's staff with some of the best numbers in the conference. Jamarillo is posting a 2.87 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 11 starts and 69 innings. He's struck out 78 and limited opposing batters to a .226 average — no easy feat in the loaded LSC.

Meanwhile, St. Edward's a quartet of hitters with at least 103 at-bats sporting above-1.000 OPS: Connor Cox (1.159); Marco Barrera (1.082); Travis Chestnut (1.056); and Lance Little (1.067). Both Cox and Chestnut have hit 11 home runs, the former contributing to Cox's 24th national ranking in runs driven in (61).

No. 4 Lubbock Christian Baseball

2025 Record: 36-18, 29-15

What to Know: Brevin McCool's season for the history books continues at the LSC Tournament, where the Chaps look to extend his magical run at the plate to include a championship.

The 30 home runs McCool has knocked are more than any Div. II players have hit since Haydn McGeary's 35 in 2022. Most recently, he clouted a pair against UT Permian Basin for his seventh multiple-homer performance of 2025 — a streak that includes a four-homer day against Angelo State.

McCool isn't LCU's only standout hitter, however: The Chaps lineup also features .424 batter Jacob Gutierrez, .395 hitter Nicklaus Baumbach, and .365 hitter Shea Brown, all of whom have seven or more home runs on the season. LCU's 81 total home runs rank fifth nationally, ahead of the postseason and top the LSC.

No. 5 West Texas A&M Baseball

2025 Record: 35-19, 26-18

What to Know: West Texas A&M rebounded from a four-game sweep late in the regular vs. Angelo State to win 5-of-8, including the last three straight over fellow LSC Baseball Tournament qualifier Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Buffs now look to carry that momentum over into their tournament-opening series with Lubbock Christian, which split four games against WTAM early in April.

Leading perennial LSC contender WTAM into this postseason are Kyle Micklus and Dylan Fesperman with 15 and 12 home runs. The two join Ryan Camacho, Kory Schmidt, and Rodric Blac,k all hitting .361 or better through the regular season.

No. 6 St. Mary's Baseball

2025 Record: 30-24, 23-21

What to Know: A five-game losing skid to close the regular season contributed to St. Mary's finishing just in the field for the LSC Baseball Tournament. The Rattlers aim to recover from the late-season stumble when they travel to St. Edward's for the opening-round series. The Hilltoppers and Rattlers split the season series, which included a masterful seven-inning, seven-strikeout shutout from St. Mary's pitcher Kaleb Gauna.

Gauna's 46 strikeouts on the season lead the Rattlers, which include nine in one of his most recent starts on April 16 vs. Cameron. At the dish, Easton Parrish has hit 13 home runs to contribute to his team-leading .638 slugging percentage. Garrett Brooks, who has nine home runs, his hitting .341 with a .960 OPS, the latter stat trailing only Parrish's 1.026 for the team lead among qualifying batters.

No. 7 Texas A&M-Kingsville Baseball

2025 Record: 29-23, 22-22

What to Know: Despite dropping their final three of the regular season, the Javelinas put together a strong enough April to secure their spot in the LSC Baseball Tournament. Texas A&M-Kingsville scored a series win over St. Edward's down the stretch, plating 11 and 20 in two of the three wins against the conference's No. 3 seed.

That game featured a 4-for-5 performance from shortstop Maurice Martinez, who is one of five primary Javelina batters with an average better than .300 going into the postseason. He joins Vincent Sanchez, Joshua Endo, Nick Reyes and Isaiah Aguilar, all of whom have also driven in at least 22 runs. All but Sanchez have also stolen at least seven bases on the campaign.
