ACC Baseball Preview 2025: Clemson, UNC, FSU Chasing No. 2 Virginia
The Wahoos of Virginia opens as the No. 2 team in the country, but Florida State and Clemson have other plans.
Virginia Baseball topped Florida State in the ACC Baseball Coaches Poll as the favorite to win the league as the conference enters 2025 looking like the biggest challenger to SEC dominance.
Virginia is ranked No. 2 in the nation in the D1Baseball Top 25 and is a unanimous top 5 team in the various preseason polls. The Cavaliers enter the season seeking its first national championship since 2015, the last time an ACC member won the national championship.

The Cavaliers earned 13 of the 16 possible first-place ACC votes, marking their strongest preseason showing to date.
Following a 2024 season that saw them reach the Men’s College World Series, the Cavaliers enter the 2025 season ranked No. 2 in the D1Baseball Preseason Poll—the highest preseason ranking in program history. Virginia accumulated 251 points in the ACC poll.
Florida State, Clemson Baseball Chasing Cavs
Florida State, also a 2024 College World Series participant, was picked second with 230 points and two first-place votes. North Carolina, another CWS qualifier, claimed the third spot with 217 points. Clemson, which received the remaining first-place vote, is projected fourth with 214 points, while defending ACC champion Duke rounds out the top five with 182 points.
Clemson will open the season, along with conference mate Louisville, at the Shriners Children’s Baseball Showdown, part of the College Baseball Showdown, on Feb. 14. The Tigers will play Oklahoma State, Arizona and Ole Miss.
Wake Forest, the 2024 Preseason No. 1 team, was slotted sixth with 171 points, narrowly ahead of NC State, which earned 168 points after making a College World Series run in 2024. Stanford, an ACC newcomer with 19 College World Series appearances, was picked eighth with 143 points, followed by Louisville (128) and Georgia Tech (113) to complete the top 10.
Miami (87 points) and Virginia Tech (85) were projected 11th and 12th, respectively, while ACC newcomer California was picked 13th with 60 points. Pitt (52), Notre Dame (44), and Boston College (31) rounded out the preseason poll.
ACC's National Presence Strong in Preseason Rankings
Seven ACC teams are ranked in the D1Baseball Preseason Top 25, led by No. 2 Virginia, No. 6 North Carolina, No. 9 Florida State, No. 11 Duke, No. 13 NC State, No. 14 Wake Forest, and No. 15 Clemson. Additionally, 17 ACC players have been named Preseason All-Americans, including a national-best 10 first-team selections.
The 2025 ACC baseball season begins Friday, Feb. 14, with all 16 teams in action. Conference play is scheduled to start Friday, March 7.
The 2025 ACC Baseball Championship will take place May 20-25 at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.

Jamie Arnold, who FloBaseball projected as the No. 1 pick in the MLB Draft in its first 2025 mock draft, is a consensus top 4 prospect in the draft. Outfielder Cam Cannarella, meanwhile, is considered a top-10 prospect in this year’s draft.

Where Is The 2025 College Baseball Showdown?
The Shriners Children’s College Showdown and two-weekend Amegy Bank College Baseball Series presented by Kubota will take place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, and feature some of the top teams in the nation.
The 2025 season will mark the fifth consecutive year of college baseball at Globe Life Field – home of the world champion Texas Rangers – and the second straight year the action will span three weekends.
When Is The College Baseball Showdown?
The first weekend of the festivities, the Shriners Children’s College Showdown, will begin on Friday, Feb. 14 and will run through Feb. 16.
The following two weeks of action, the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series, will take place Feb. 21-23 and Feb. 28-March 2.
To keep the momentum going between the weekends, the series also will include four midweek games at Globe Life Field. Those contests will take place Feb. 18, Feb. 19, Feb. 26 and March 5.
