It’s the heat of the baseball season in America’s heartland.

And in the Frontier League, which is home to its share of Midwestern teams, two clubs from the region who have been stalwarts of the league for decades will tussle once again.

The Evansville Otters and Florence Y’alls have a three-game series on deck between them this weekend at Thomas More Stadium in Florence, Kentucky, with games scheduled to get going at 7:03 p.m. Friday, 6:36 p.m. Saturday and 1:07 p.m. Sunday (all Eastern Time) and to be streamed live and exclusively on FloBaseball as part of its coverage of independent baseball all summer long.

Evansville is trying to get back to the postseason a year after it won the West Division Series and made the Frontier League Championship Series, but it has sputtered out of the gate to start the year. Florence is in a bit of a slump in its own right and is trying to rally and finish a season with a winning record for the first time since 2021.

Zade Richardson, C, Florence Y’alls

A solid contributor to Florence last season as the former St. Louis Cardinals draft pick and Ohio native hit 12 home runs and 36 RBIs in 60 games a year ago for the Y’alls, Richardson is back for more in Year 2 in the Frontier League and is already hitting the ground running — as evidenced by his monster first few games back in Florence. 

The league’s Player of the Week for the week ending May 13, Richardson earned the award following the Frontier’s opening weekend of play after blasting 11 RBIs in a three-game stretch against the two-time defending champion Quebec Capitales, including a seven-RBI outburst on opening day May 9. 

Richardson’s white-hot start has cooled down some, but he did have a homer and two RBIs last week against Windy City to add to his current RBI total (as of Thursday night) of 15, which currently ranks tied for second in the Frontier.
