William & Mary baseball may have some recent history on its side, whereas Delaware will go into its next conference series coming off some particularly notable Coastal Athletic Association baseball wins.

It all means that something has got to give when the two teams clash on the diamond for a three-game stretch in CAA play this weekend.

In each team’s second league series of the season, the Tribe and Blue Hens will face off three times this weekend at UD as they’ll each try to gain some early ground in the conference standings.

William & Mary (18-7 overall, 2-1 CAA) and Delaware’s (11-11, 2-1) all-time series against each other currently stands at an even 35-35, but the Tribe have won five of the past six meetings between them and eight of their past nine this season, including a series win over Stony Brook to open up conference play.

Meanwhile, while UD has had its share of struggles to start the year—most notably a nonconference sweep to Rutgers earlier in the month in which the Blue Hens gave up a combined 56 runs in just three games—a series win against Campbell to begin their CAA stretch with a bang was undoubtedly a statement made, especially considering that the Camels were ranked in national top-25 polls and could still make plenty of noise come postseason time.

Player to Watch: Josiah Seguin, SS, William & Mary

Back-to-back CAA Baseball Rookie of the Week awards for Seguin (after he nabbed his second such honor from the league Monday) indicate that the Tribe may have a budding star on their hands at shortstop. The past two weeks have seen a rapid rise in stock for the 6-foot-4 Virginia native as Seguin, who didn’t have a hit in his career entering William & Mary’s nonconference game at Longwood on March 13, got the start that day and proceeded to go 3 for 5 with a home run and three runs in a 20-6 Tribe rout.

He hasn’t left the lineup since, racking up 11 RBIs in a nine-game stretch—five of which came in a single game against Norfolk State last week—as he arrives into the weekend white-hot following a two-RBI outing in W&M’s nonconference win in midweek against VCU and a nine-game streak of scoring at least one run.
