A night after falling to No. 2-ranked UCLA, No. 8 UConn (4-2), led by Paige Bueckers and Aubrey Griffin, pulled away from the Kansas Jayhawks (2-3) in the last game of the 2023 Women's Cayman Islands Classic on No. 25 in George Town. 

UConn picked up the win, 71-63.

It ended a tough week for the Huskies, who lost star guard Azzi Fudd before heading to the Grand Cayman Islands, and dropped to 3-2 briefly after UCLA beat them 78-67 on the first night of the classic. 

Luckily for UConn, they still have All-American Bueckers who scored 31 against UCLA and added another 22 against Kansas.  

Griffin added 20 points. 

For the Jayhawks, the 2023 WNIT Champions was a tournament of what-ifs. Kansas nearly knocked off No. 9 Virginia Tech before losing 59-58. The Jayhawks were led by Taiyanna Jackson who had 16 points against UConn.
