The Butler Women’s Basketball team enters year two under coach Austin Parkinson hoping to take another step under the former longtime coach of IUPUI in 2023-2024. 

And those steps begin with a season-opening trip to Iowa State on Nov. 6 to begin the new season. 

Butler went 11-19 in Parkinson’s first year at the helm and just 6-14 in BIG EAST play. While the 11-win season may not seem like a standout campaign, it was an 11-game improvement over the previous season when Butler was just 1-27, including an 0-18 conference record. 

Before arriving at Butler, Parkinson was the coach at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis for 12 seasons and amassed a 224-141 record. In his first season at IUPUI, he went 4-24 but saw a 9-game improvement in year two. 

It won’t be easy for Parkinson to find that same sophomore season improvement. Butler’s schedule not only features a trip to Ames, Iowa to start the season, but the team will play Wisconsin in Madison and host Vanderbilt before starting the BIG EAST season on the road against UConn in December.

When Is The BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament?

BIG EAST Teams will compete for the automatic qualifier for the 2024 NCAA Tournament beginning March 8 in Uncasville, Conn. The BIG EAST Tournament Championship Game is March 11. 

When Is The 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament?

Selection Sunday is March 17, 2024 for the NCAA Women’s Tournament. The first four will tip-off on March 20 with the round of 64 beginning on March 22.
