A trade in the Frontier League sent a standout starting pitcher to the Tri-City ValleyCats ahead of their postseason push, as the calendar turned to August, and clubs ready for the stretch run of 2023.

The ValleyCats — tied atop the win column in the Frontier League with the Gateway Grizzlies and Quebec Capitales — landed right-handed pitcher Angelo Baez in a deal with the Lake Erie Crushers. Lake Erie received righty Elliot Carney and a player to be named later. 

Baez wrapped up his stint with Lake Erie on Aug. 8, pitching seven innings and striking out a season-high nine batters. The trade was made one day later, solidifying the starting pitching rotation for a Tri-City club that ranks 10th in the Frontier League with a team ERA of 5.19.

In the Pioneer League, Lavoisier Fisher signed as a free agent with the Grand Junction Jackalopes. 

Fisher completed an impressive college career at Albany State, where in 2022, he hit .405 with 12 home runs. Fisher pushed that number to 14 in 2023 and hit .321 in 168 at-bats for the Rams.
