A busy week of movement in independent league baseball saw assorted players parlay their standout play into opportunities with Major League clubs.

The Cleveland Guardians bought the contract of pitcher Jerad Eickhoff from the Atlantic League's Lexington Counter Clocks on June 20. 

Eickhoff, a 6-foot-4 right-hander, struck out 40 batters in 49 2/3 innings with Lexington. The former Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher gets his first look in the American League as he moves onto Cleveland. 

Eickhoff has company joining him in the AL Central, too, with two more independent league players having their contracts bought out in the past week. 

Kamron Willman hit an eye-popping .427 over a month of action with the Missoula PaddleHeads and drove in 15 runs. The versatile infielder capped his time in Missoula with a flourish, homering June 18 against the Glacier Range Riders.

The former All-Southwestern Athletic Conference honoree at Alabama State joined Great Falls down the stretch in 2022 and played well, hitting .271 over 192 at-bats. Returning to the Voyagers in 2023, the shortstop De Guzman raked with a .441 batting average over 59 at-bats.
