The 2023 Coastal Plain League season is here, and some top-flight young talent takes center stage for a thrilling summer of action.

In a campaign that promises a new champion, every club embarks on 2023 with sights set on a first-place finish. Check out some of the hitters poised to shape the Coastal Plain League as the season unfolds.

Jordan Ardoin, Holly Springs Salamanders

Coming off a 10-home run collegiate season for LSU-Alexandria, Jordan Ardoin kept that same energy at the dish in his Coastal Plain League debut for Holly Springs with two homers in opening weekend.

Ardoin's plate presence isn't just about power, either. He's proven reliable for getting on-base both in college and with a previous summer-league opportunity for the Hutchinson Monarchs of the Sunflower Collegiate League.

He hit .353 there in 2021, preceding seasons of .371 and .390 batting for LSU-Alexandria.

Tyson Bass, Boone Bigfoots

A multiple-time All-Conference honoree at North Carolina Wesleyan, Tyson Bass joins the Coastal Plain League after seasons of .297, .314 and .315 in college.

Bass produced a 1.013 OPS in the 2023 college campaign, a byproduct of his patience at the plate. Bass drew 43 walks in 2023, up from 29 a season prior. He also cut down on strikeouts from season-to-season.

But Bass' presence at the plate isn't just about being methodical: He hit 25 home runs in three seasons for NC Wesleyan.

Landon Choboy, Morehead City Marlins

Debuting in the Coastal Plain League with two home runs in the Morehead City Marlins' opening weekend set a fitting tone for Landon Choboy's summer.

Choboy comes to the CPL after an outstanding 2023 season for Mount Olive, in which he hit .384 with nine home runs and 69 RBI. The latter was good for second-most in all of NCAA Div. II.

Choboy transferred to Mount Olive before the 2023 campaign after a solid three-year stint at College of Charleston.

He hit .300 in 2021 for the Cougars and .294 in 2022, with four home runs in the latter campaign.

Tahraun Hammond, Tri-City Chili Peppers

After a limited appearance with Tri-City last season, Tahraun Hammond returned with a splash to kick off the 2023 campaign. Hammond made three hits and drove in a run during opening weekend, connected for a double and stole a base.

The impressive start to the 2023 Coastal Plain season mirrors Hammond's outstanding play at Virginia State University, where Hammond hit .357 and .331 the last two years.

He won the New South Athletic Conference Player of the Year this past season after driving in 18 and stealing 14 bases.

Cam Hassert, Wilmington Sharks

Cam Hassert has been an impressive contributor for Villanova each of the last three seasons, including in 2023 despite being limited to 18 games. Hassert made those opportunities count, hitting six home runs in just 80 plate appearances for the Wildcats.
