Catawba guard Lyrik Thorne has been named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played during Week 12 of the 2022-2023 season, the conference announced Monday. 

Thorne, a senior from High Point, North Carolina, helped lead Catawba to another two-win week. 

On Wednesday night at Elizabeth City, she had 13 points, four assists and four steals in a convincing victory. 

Back in conference play Saturday against Carson-Newman, Thorne knocked down seven of the team’s 14 3-pointers in the win. She finished with 29 points and four assists, and she was 7-of-13 behind the arc.
